Abstract

Pediatric palliative care includes a multidisciplinary team that offers physical, emotional, spiritual and social treatment to the child, covering the family's needs. The aim of the study was to identify and analyze publications with and without interventions on psychological aspects related to parents of children in palliative care. The method was an integrative literature review using the following databases: PsycINFO, Embase, Pubmed, Lilacs, Cochrane and Scielo and the following terms were used: Palliative Care AND Pediatrics AND Parents AND Psychology. The initial search resulted in a total of 766 articles and 10 were selected for final analysis. The participants were mostly mothers and the palliative care approach was proposed from fetal diagnosis to the parents' mourning period. In some studies, psychological aspects were measured by inventories. Most evaluated stress, anxiety, depression and coping. This review also identified interventions offered to parents, mostly performed by a multidisciplinary team. It is necessary to better understand the psychological aspects of parents in the context of pediatric palliative care so that it is possible to offer adequate psychosocial interventions for this population.
