Currently, many things are said about suicide prevention. However, it was realized that there are still many challenges ahead related to the need for care, attention and treatment of people psychologically affected by suicide deaths. This article aims to work on the theme of postvention in the university environment, especially in heath courses, to this end a pilot study was carried out a private university in the mountainous regions of the state of Rio de Janeiro, through a survey applied to 70 students of health courses at the institution containing five questions related to the suicide theme. The results showed that the students had more knowledge related to the suicide prevention than in relation to postvention. The quantitative analysis of the collected data revealed the need to fortification of disseminating strategies of the knowledge about suicidal behavior, especially regarding postvention. Through this research it was concluded that efforts are needed from teaching and research institutions, in order to expand knowledge about suicidal behavior during the training of the health professionals.
