Cervical cancer is the fourth most common cancer among women worldwide. One of the treatments for uterine cancer is the radiotherapy modality known as brachytherapy, which consists of the application of radiation sources in direct contact with the tumor. Application, however, can pose a wide range of physical and psychological challenges. The objective of the present work is to understand the experience of women submitted to brachytherapy sessions. The method used was the phenomenological hermeneutic, which starts from the individual’s own discourse about their experience. Semi-structured interviews were carried out with women who had completed their brachytherapy treatment at Cancer Hospital in Brazil. In the interviews, the triggering question was used: “Describe to me how was your experience of undergoing brachytherapy treatment?”. After transcribing and analyzing the interviews, the themes found were grouped into three major thematic axes: (i) Marks of Cancer, (ii) Transforming yourself and (iii) Experience of Pain, which after being analyzed were discussed with concepts of existentialphenomenology. The participants’ speeches revealed the marks, transformations and pain experienced during this treatment, revealing the importance and need for a unique and closer care for these women.
