Hospitalization in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) can have significant emotional consequences for both patients and their families, such as anxiety, isolation and psychological distress at the seriousness of the situation. In this context, the use of tablets is a valuable tool. The aim of this study is to report on the experience of using tablets in the ICU with patients and their families. This is a qualitative, descriptive, experience report-type study of psychological practices carried out using tablet technology in health care for patients and their families in the ICU of a public state hospital in the city of Teresina, Piauí (PI). The interventions were carried out by a psychology resident from the Multiprofessional Residency in Adult Intensive Care (RIMTIA). The instrument used in the study was the field diary, collected between August and December 2022 and 2023. The reflection generated from this experience highlights the potential of psychological interventions through the use of tablets, including psychological care and guidance, audio playback, virtual visits, audiovisual resources, cognitive stimulation and rituals for preparing for intubation and saying goodbye to patients. The use of these digital technologies has shown great potential for humanizing psychological care in ICUs, while at the same time highlighting the need to respect ethical boundaries and ensure proper control of data within the hospital environment. This practice contributes to the development of protocols and advances in comprehensive care, benefiting patients, their families and the healthcare team.
